Antiqued mirror---$65

I wish I could have captured the colors in this mirror on camera, but it's hard to photograph a mirror ha ha...it's pretty cool!

Old books

These are fun to make!!  They are quick and easy! All you do is tear the backing off an older book, stain the outer edges and paint the outer pages. I also used nail head trim to decorate them up a bit!

Redo

He I think maybe my lamps need their own blog....

I know this one is pretty cool just as is but I had something in mind and had to go with it...

Tomorrow I'll get some pics of the outcome!!! It's pretty awesome!!

It's tomorrow....

So I of course changed out the glass. Remember the lamp from a couple posts back?  I discarded it's glass...I knew I'd find just the right place for it!  These would be an awesome easy project for you. There are some awesome quirky lamps out there. This literally took me 30min from start to finish! Before you start, make sure you have a top piece(which is just the part that keeps the lamp shade on). Some are more decorative than others...that piece is what holds it all in place!

Another lamp!!!

So I love lamps!  I'm a bit crazy about them...

This one I've had for awhile but I just couldn't find the right shade. So it's time to make something else out of it!!

It's pretty cool right?? I'd already started painting before I remembered to take a picture :)

I decided to change out the glass, the other just wasn't working for me once I got some paint on.

Now it's an awesome decor piece!! I love it!

And for my next project....

This ugly ol thing.  She doesn't look like much, I know, but I have a house and shed and yard full of projects, yet this one is first on my list!

I'm so excited!!!  Stay tuned ...

Sold

I found this dresser in Vegas, my daughter had a basketball tournament there a couple of weeks ago and we had some time to kill between games, so why not find some yard sales!!  I had to talk pretty hard though because yardsaleing is not my husbands favorite thing to do ha ha.

This was a project fail!! Majorly!!  I had something else in mind for how I wanted the finish on this but sometimes things don't go as planned...isn't that kinda how life goes too?

So I started out with a very light coat each, speratically, of white and cream paint.

Then I went over the whole piece with a dark stain.  I was hoping it look awesome and that the 2 colors would take the stain differently, but it ended up looking like some kids were let loose with paint.  It was not pretty!!  What to do??  After you've gone to that much work, it's pretty discouraging. I thought maybe sanding the snot out of it would help but it didn't.  My husband liked it :) he was just trying to be nice...but I've been doing this long enough that I new it wouldn't sell like that.

Well... I like layers! In fact I love layers!  I can't seem to paint a piece just one color anyway!!  I took the white paint and made it into chalk paint(yes you can do that) there are recipes online.  Then I went over the dresser with it making sure the dark grey stain still showed through.

It worked out beautifully!!  Whew!!

Chalkboards

Hello everyone!!  We will have a variety of chalkboads  at the occasional sale coming soon....sorry these have all been sold :-)

Just a little info.  If you are going to make your own chalkboard it must be seasoned!  You need to turn the chalk sideways and go over the chalkboard completely before you write anything on it.  If you forget this step, the first thing you write will be there forever, it will not erase.

Have a good one!

Lamp redo

Happy new year!!! Hope everything is well with ya'll.   New year, new times right!  I'm ready to try something a little different on my blog.  I like reading how other people fix, redo, recycle... So I figured I'd try that.  I'm not the best writer though so bare with me.

If you've been following me for awhile you know my fetish for lamps. I just can't help it!!  Isn't this one lovely?  I picked her up at a yard sale for $2.  "Ado's price!"  Ado is my awesome neighbor who loves to garage sale as much as I do.  I love going with him to the sales in Vegas because he's a garage sale maniac!! Anyway, he has a way of talking people down to "Ado's price."...if it's not "Ado's price" we move on.  Ado sometimes just shakes his head when he see's what I buy.  He just can't see the potential ha ha

I'll show him!!

Ok, first I needed to take it completely apart.  If you are going to try something like this be pretty sure about it because to get it apart like this you have to clip the wires. No more light!!

Don't you just love the seventies glass??

Time for some dark spray paint because the brassy color really dates it.  Also I want to distress it and the dark looks much better than brass showing through.  I like krylon spray from Walmart. I use this often for undercoating.

It's ready for paint! This is just the first coat.   This lamp is both metal and wood.  If I were to distress this with sand paper, the paper would scratch all the way through to the brassy metal.  Not what I want  to happen.  A wet rag instead works like a charm because the spay paint doesn't wipe off. The white paint will wipe of very easily.

Now I've got to decide if I'm going to leave the base and top dark or paint them too. Decisions, decisions!! Stay tuned for the finished product!

Ok, the painting and distressing is now finished!  Now how to put it back together!!  That's where my husband comes in :) I was just going to put the long pole back in which held it together as a lamp but then you'd have an ugly pole down the middle. His ideas is much better :)  they make these screw thingys...one end is a screw(which will go into the wood) the other end can have a bolt (which goes through a hole we drilled in the metal...then tightens down.  Hope that made sense.

It looks like this.

There is no way I was putting the glass back in :) I'm going the shabby way and replacing it with wire.  Just used the glass as a template.

All finished!!!  It made an awesome lantern:)

I just want to show you a comparison to the lantern I bought probably 7 years ago from tai pan for 50 bucks!  I thought it was large ha ha...this one is majestic!!  I love it!

This will be available for purchase in our upcoming "occasional sale".  Stay tuned for details! Thanks!!

Antique white/metallic dresser with casters

I tried to paint this just plain white.  I can't seem to do it ha ha.  I always end up adding another color because I like depth and character.  Anyhoo, I had to try some metallic.  I think it turned out pretty darn awesome!!

5 Drawer French Provincial

This Dresser is not for sale :-)  It's going in my newly refinished bedroom!  It's taken us almost 4 years to get to my "hole".  It's been a dark dreary place until now.  It is now a little piece of heaven in my chaotic construction zone, 1901 house.

Waterfall Desk

This one is awesome...shabby elegant, is a good way to describe it.  It has 4 drawers.  The bottom 2 are fake.
